I’m a researcher at the IBM Watson Research Center in the Unified Data Analytics research group. I focus on Semantic Technologies, in particular Ontology Based Data Access (OBDA), Efficient Query Answering for OBDA and Relational Databases in Ontology Reasoning and, in general, the application of semantic technologies for data access and data integration. I have worked in several areas, from automated classification, to logics and Semantic Web. I am particularly interested in scalable query answering and reasoning in “light” and “medium” weight ontology languages, in particular, RDFS, OWL 2 QL, OWL 2 EL, OWL 2 RL and SWRL. Previously I worked at Free University of Bolzano Bozen in the Knowledge Representation meets Databases (KRDB) research group.
The topic of my Ph.D. dissertation was the optimization of query rewriting techniques for SQL. The result of that research is now being applied in the development of the -ontop- framework for OBDA and the EU project Optique (see Projects).
